What's Root?

Root is the super-ultra-mega. All system commands on a Linux box need to be done as root. This means installing software and changing files not in your /home directory, etc. In your terminal, if you're logged in already become root by typing su at your $ prompt, then the root password. Log in the system directly as root from a terminal, but not the graphical login. # shows root.

The talk has passed about Massachusetts doing the document dance with Microsoft in order to provoke a beggarly response of slashed this and "Here, you can have this as well..." from Microsoft. Microsoft said it was political. We're on to slingin' and the FUD and the pressure and the armies of suits... and it's getting riper around here. Watch out where you step, you may want to approach wearing only the proper equipment.

Reading news here and there I've been paying witness to this bold statement from the commonwealth of Massachusetts. I get the sense that the past 2 years worth of articles and discussions about Microsoft and the fast-moving consumer acknowledgement of the beginning of the Microsoft Black Hole are taking hold. But that's just me.
