I disagree with the assertion that a computer user adapts to Linux, or anything else that's new to them computer-wise. I never adapted to anything when I switched to Debian GNU/Linux. I merely continued. Sure, my computing "knowledge" was expanded, that's terrific 'cause that's the way I roll....but adapting? Naah. Don't get caught up in all that. Don't think that you are forced into a night-and-day switch form Windows.
Sure, it's different - but the obvious differences are really quite subtle in the overall. Different software titles, for example. You still have the desktop metaphor, the "HEY! Click HERE" menu, the clicking....even alt+tab and ctrl+c and all those types of shortcuts. Lol, they aren't exclusive to Windows, you know, they are desktop metaphor constructs and Windows presents to you its version and the linux desktop environments present to you theirs. It's all the same. They each recognize a good idea when they see one so they each give you the same thing. The Linux ones just give you far more control and a few extra really cool features.
Underneath, certainly - big differences. What you actually have to deal with is like going from 2nd grade to third, though. It's not really that big a deal and the "adapting", not so much really.
Remember to examine the source of your advice. Even me, righteous that I am ;). Think twice about whom to believe but consider why you are believing them. That's it isn't it? It's all about the: "why am I following this guy's advice instead of that guy's?" and only you can answer it.
Chin up, computers suck but they are trivially easy to understand. Yessir, even for you, confused as you think you are. ;)
