So I am reading once again, and it seems impossible folks are all tied up in the age old claim, Linux is not ready for the desktop.

So I wonder, what distro are these folks using?  The reason I wonder this is fairly informed, but also fairly simple, right now.

I got a little out of hand lately, with the new Ubuntu release, and everything else working so well, and RC1 Mint ont he street, I had like 6 distros booting on my PC.  Now I agree, this makes zero sense.  Still, as I ran the new highly acclaimed KUbuntu, I realized not all distros have advanced to desktop equality at the same pace.

Personally, I don't see much difference in running Debian Lenny or Mint Elyssa LTS.  I don't see much trouble running Ubuntu, then I ran kUbuntu.  It's way better than the last KDE I ran, which was at least two years ago in a Mandrake release.  Still, in my eyes, it's not anything similar to Gnome, and the main releases work so well, I really do see an argument for "not ready for the desktop"!

Still, as you know if you read anything much on this site, Debian is rocking on the PC Desktop, and there is an almost unlimited supply of support available to make sure you get everything you are looking for in a system.

As far as software goes, I usually find some form of free/open source software (FOSS) that fully meets my particular needs.  I know about 90% of the software I use at home, is similar or the same software I use at work.  So, the transition from a Windows PC at work, to a Linux PC at home, really is seamless.  My real issue lately is no longer wishing to "support" Windows fixes on other folk's PCs.  Lack of having to do this regularly makes one forgetful...and that's a good thing!
