and Round is a shape...

So in my distro-hopping adventures, I recently read about "Ultimate Edition (Ubuntu)".  Wow, a 1.6 or so iso distro DVD!

OK, I admit it, there is something here way past the geek in me.  In desktop, Ultimate is amazing.  It's already pre-loaded with about every application i have come to know and WISH was already installed when I started out in Ubuntu (pre-Debian days).

Everything working, out of the box, and the only "glitch" if you can call it one, is aligning my sound to my BOSE USB instead of the on-board (and BIOS disabled) soundcard.  I still haven't filed this, and likely should.  Why would a on-board sound system supposedly disabled by the BIOS setting, still be available and working in Linux?  If I could get the distros to quit seeing that card, I would be much happier.  Anyone with an answer as to what I am doing wrong?

Still, UE is a steep hill to climb.  There's just too much for me to handle.  So many choices, so many programs.  And everything is there, just waiting for me, the end user, to set it to my liking.

Pluses from UE - tons of choice, everything working.  Well thought out, and graphically striking.  Fit, finish, polish and performance, all in a superb bundle.

Negatives - too much for most, I feel.  If you are into video editing and multimedia everything, likely you would love this distro.

I'm still on the fence about this distribution.  I ran 2.2, and it really is exquisite.  If I had to pay for this much computing software from vendors, I would be broke.  It's one full featured, highly working, superb visual interface release.  Just a bit much for me.

Still, it pushes the envelope of just how far you can take Debian.  And it really comes out shing like a star, showing anyone with the prowess of knowing what they are looking at the possibilities of this OS.
