I wrote a while back how I have had the best Linux experience ever with a distro called Linux Mint.

It's still my desktop distribution of choice.  Debian is great, and as I wrote in the article, actually, the grandparent, if you will, of Linux Mint.  But the ease of use of Linux Mint is really a joy.

Here's another blog about the details and ease of use, http://www.brighthub.com/hubfolio/matthew-casperson/articles/42009.aspx

I really understand the writer's point of view, hence my desktop choice.  You see, I am pro-Linux and pro-FOSS, but that should not be confused with non-PRO-ductive.  I need a desktop that works, and works well.  As I had written before, seeing how it is done in Ubuntu or Mint, has often led to me being able to better setup and understand what I want my Debian desktop to look like and make it behave as I need.
