OK, so as every geek knows, without a driver, you have non-functioning hardware. Although machiner already expounded on Linux and it's superiority in this arena, I thought I would share a recent experience. I needed internet the other day. Preferably high speed. So, in answer to my dilemna, I realized my super wham-a-dyne (and now old but still awesome) Motorola Razr 3XX 3G phone should support this. Grabbed up my usb doggle, plugged it in, set the phone USB to data connection, and my Linux desktop responds with "Would you like to connect via the Motorola Razr?" Well, yes, I would. Updates completed at about 1 MB per minute. Not bad for works about everywhere I ever get. Now scroll forward 2 days. A buddies MS laptop is junk due to some nice website loading a copy of the "personal antivirus" software virus and sale ad. Great. Need internet to get a healthy and free AV program. Plug in the Motorola in data mode again, this time to Windows, and it gives the excellent response. "Searching for driver files..." Nope, it never found them. Nor did it work. No internet, no update without driver files, which were, alas, on the internet. What do most folk say at exactly this moment? "STUPID COMPUTER". They don't care about anything, except, it's not working. Another step in the Linux direction. As I've said before, it's all about working, right, the first time and every time you need it. ezsurfer
