I posted a few days ago, and don't want to fully overshadow the great release. Ubuntu 9.10 rocks! It is by far the best Ubuntu release client I have seen. The ease of use and solid performance should not go unnoticed.
Lately, I have been trying to get a real feel for where this blog needs to go to help folks see Linux for what it is, a great alternative to end a frustration with Windows.
Do I think everything Windows is bad? Simply put, that would be no. There is innovation, especially in the software world that supports Windows. I was truely humbled by my recent iTunes experiences on Windows. My iPod has been native Linux for over a year. This, unfortunately, has not always been so pretty.
The MS preview "desktops" of the taskbar are very nice. Definitely something Windows needed. Speed at boot and shutdown are not overly enticing, OK, they are poor. Give me a Linux grub up anyday.
So, getting back on track, the new Ubuntu 9.10 is a superb desktop, it is quick, solid, and it seems to me to be a light year at least ahead of it's predecessors. How the team added so much change in so little time, to me, is remarkable. I hear about issues from folks, but I haven't personally seen any. Everything is just working, perfectly, right off the download.
So, "woo-hoo" for the team. A rocking release in an amazing time window.
For you Linux beginners, looking at just what is this Linux beast, Ubuntu is free, just go to ubuntu.com and download the iso. From there, open up your CD creation program, and use that iso to "burn an image", then use that CD and reboot your computer on the CD.
Welcome to the party...
