OK, I admit it, Apple makes a product I like, a lot. Besides my iPod, (Nano for me) I love the iPhone. The user interface is "appletuitive". Apple folks and most folks, from the sales, woulld have to agree using the device is fairly simple and straighforward. I can't use either (or haven't really tried) for a lot of what they do. And thanks to the US market, I am kind of used to having seperate gadgets for every litle thing. Not anymore.
I have to admit, I like the iPhone. Got the wife one last year for Christmas. I think it was a great gift. Superb phone. Has only one drawback in my eye. I can't use it for a phone. At least not easily. I don't appreciate it as a phone. Hard to hear it well, just not used to it. I certainly used all of it's apps about as effectively as I use my iPod (not at all effectively used).
Along came the Droid. During the Thanksgiving Week, I got my Droid. It was love at first sight. I had really read and re-read every review and info fact I could regarding Android phones. I am such a Linux Fan-boy, I really wanted more Linux in my life! And finally, the general concensus was in, Android was a great phone. So, I decided to leap, and then waited a short time, and Dell finally put me into one on the cheap. Still, as with any smartphone, it's the monthly charges that keep on adding to the pricetag.
And the winner after these few weeks, the Droid by a mile. I know there's an app for that, and a map for that, but neither of these makes me give a darn. I just need things to work, and work well. By the end of day two, it was funny, but the entire family was gaining a new saying...ask the Droid!
The voice search utility was fun, and overall, accurate and fast! Folks wanted to use the Droid to check on mundane stuff. The Navigation checked in and worked very well, and all-in-all, the Droid is a home run. No, it's not an iPhone. I personally think it's better. I've never been Apple-concentric, nor will I be. History sets me this way.
But the Droid is PC. It is how I speak, and how I have learned and grew up on a computer. I haven't figured out how to use all the base loaded well enough, but I added a few apps, and so far, this phone is a really SMART phone.
I know it's taken Android a couple of years to really get rolling, but watch out Apple, I think Motorola just blew you out of the water. See, I had a need for an iPhone, and an iPod and a GPS, but now I have room for only one. Did I happen to mention, the Droid sounds better than my iPod (a richer - fuller bass) and uses my same Skull Candies? Googles Maps seems to do everything I needs, and the Magellan now seems like an extra TV set sitting in the spare room. As far as missing AT&T? Hahahahaha, funny, very funny. Heads up, laptop, I can see your days may be numbered...
Know anyone that wants a slightly used Nano, or a GPS? Off to Craiglist I go!
