Last night, for example, we got together over at Mark's for some guy madness as the Bruins took the game! It was wicked... It was mentioned more than once during the night how the talking heads on TV talked about the game continually for hours folling because it was so good.
BRUINS!
Anyway, Mark was very happy with himself and he let me know that he installed Debian and, indeed, it was that simple, and Boom - there ya go, reboot into Debian and you've got an excellent place to start.
He was very impressed with the desktop Lenny gave him but didn't like IceWeasel at all and was annoyed at the Opera download dropdown selections -- there were so many and WTF do I have??
It was charming because here he was all fired-up about using Linux. I showed him the repo way to go.
"Ahhhh! That's incredible."
He smiled and told the others that that right there was "worth the price".
Opera and supporting plugins and functionality were installed and fired-up at the Talkitup music festiganza where we all grooved to some Dead and the Howlin' Wolf band and folks were asking, "Mark set all that up? What is that?"
lol, I never had to say a word. Throughout the evening I just did stuff on the box every once in a while and the people started to demand that wickedness for their computers at home.
This is all happy happy joy joy but I see it all the time. Yawn. It's always the same but I do get to install a lot of Debian wickedness. However, I also don't get to install a lot of Debian wickedness, too. And that happens more often.
But...I hear from them, those folks that say "WOW!" but take it no further, from time to time. A lot eventually catch on, a lot of them start wanting, and that's cool. If they want it, therein lies effort to satisfy their wanting.
Whole point is, of course Linux can stand on its own merit. It does so in fabulous ways all day long, everywhere. But being a great thing, one that uncommonly enough is also a thing that's good for people and society in general, isn't enough in our fast-blits-super-saturated-comin-at-ya world.
At home we have protections against this and can see past it. The kids tell me often enough, esp the young lad, that their BS detectors go off often enough.
Aww -- way-to-be kids. Teach some adults!
