Understand Program Differences
When you've run your Windows desktop for a length of time you'll no doubt have some favorite programs. Chances are that Linux has a native app to replace it with but sometimes it doesn't happen that way. You have many options and this should not preclude most people from running Linus -- Debian.
What to keep -- what to toss
You can migrate about all of your personal information. Many programs in Linux will import your Windows program's data. No worries. However, there are times when other techniques come into play. Learn about that here.
What about Hardware?
There are lists web-wide that you could consult to determine if your existing hardware will run well with Linux. Or, vice-versa.
Generally, and as a point of fact - Linux supports more hardware "out-of-the-box" than Windows does. As well, there's a pretty excellent chance that when you install Linux (debian) you will notice that your hardware drivers were installed as well. Mostly.
Linux General
There is quite a bt happening in the world of Linux these days -- we have the pact between Microsoft and Novel, we have the Linux Foundation, patent issues in general, and we always have "the year of Linux on the desktop" to consider. Post your general Linux inquiries or statements here.
Perpetuating the Goodness
What are you doing to spread the Linux word? What? You think this is a free ride? Nossir. Sure, Linux is free to use and make your own, or to speak -- but what are you doing to free up the web from that Windows scourge? Are you simply letting all those Windows users continue their (ignorant) destructive ways on the web? Those ways that embolden companies to pressure lawmakers to pave their way. Really, what are you doing? Are you trying to get Linux into schools? Your family? Have you formed a group of some kind that perpetuates Linux? Write about it here. Gather steam here.
Linux Tips & Tricks
We've all got our favorite tweaks and hacks that we do to our own desktops. Maybe we do the same for others.
You use someting for a while you get pretty good at it, no? Sure. Spread the knowledge -- post your kung-fu right here.
Linux Conventions
Linux is an altogether different animal than Windows. Live it, love it, learn it. You won't see a C: drive, nor will you ever need to defrag. Not like you ever did anyway. Linux will actually a,,ow you to be the neophyte that you are and let you stay that way.
Peripherals
Linux support more hardware out-of-the-box than you might think. Check the web for hardware supported under Linux...you'll find that you're probably covered.
Debian Security
Let's discuss some security aspects of Debian. From password protecting your Grub and BIOS to config'ing iptables, users permissions, Apache server and whatever else.
Securing you Debian box is more of a Kung-Fu than a collection of software. Let's discuss what we do or don't do and how to make the whole process painless and enjoyable.
Music
I like to post songs that I dig whenever I hear one. There's always something playing around here: blues, jazz, opera, classical, rock and/or roll - whatever. We all love music (except that guy Randolph, but he's a freak). How about we start posting what we're listening to, or a tune we heard on the way to work this morning that just won't leave our heads. Why not turn each other on to some fantastico tunage? Rock on.
forum script related
This newly added board holds any and all "conversations" or notifications, updates about how I'm wrecking this SMF script. I'm cool like that.
Projects and Events
You don't necessarily have to "feed a geek". For instance you can be a geek that organizes evnts in which others get fed. A woman I know in Saint Louie used to run a food co-op. Do you? Do you...walk for hunger, I used to participate in the "Crop Walk" when I was a teen. Do you know of any events? Do you run a kitchen? DO you work at a homeless shelter spreading the love? Food is love, spread some.
Recipes
We all like to eat - food is Love, share some lovin' with the rest of us. Get your Grandma's permission before you post her double-secret recipe, though. Dude, don't mess with Grandma.
