Debian Gnome Desktop This is the default Debian flavor release. It's got what people need and it's Debian, so if what you need isn't there right away, adding it is a cinch. Moderator: admin

Software When you've run your Windows desktop for a length of time you'll no doubt have some favorite programs. Chances are that Linux has a native app to replace it with but sometimes it doesn't happen that way. You have many options and this should not preclude most people from running Linus -- Debian. What to keep -- what to toss You can migrate about all of your personal information. Many programs in Linux will import your Windows program's data. No worries. However, there are times when other techniques come into play. Learn about that here. Moderator: admin

Linux General There is quite a bt happening in the world of Linux these days -- we have the pact between Microsoft and Novel, we have the Linux Foundation, patent issues in general, and we always have "the year of Linux on the desktop" to consider. Post your general Linux inquiries or statements here. Moderator: machiner

Linux Conventions Linux is an altogether different animal than Windows. Live it, love it, learn it. You won't see a C: drive, nor will you ever need to defrag. Not like you ever did anyway. Linux will actually a,,ow you to be the neophyte that you are and let you stay that way. Moderator: machiner

Debian Security Let's discuss some security aspects of Debian. From password protecting your Grub and BIOS to config'ing iptables, users permissions, Apache server and whatever else. Securing you Debian box is more of a Kung-Fu than a collection of software. Let's discuss what we do or don't do and how to make the whole process painless and enjoyable. Moderator: machiner

Geeks on Parenting - A Community The most important job in the world. It's hard, there is little help from reasonable people, and the results of doing this job badly are catastrophic. For everyone concerned. I'm a parent and I know that there are plenty of places to look to for help. Like right at my kids. This board will not be like those other parenting forums that pussify and coddle our children, or let them grow obese, or accept one physican's assertion of ADD. Nossir. This board is about reality, kindness, love, respect, courage and calling a spade a spade. Everyone is welcome. Moderator: machiner

Music I like to post songs that I dig whenever I hear one. There's always something playing around here: blues, jazz, opera, classical, rock and/or roll - whatever. We all love music (except that guy Randolph, but he's a freak). How about we start posting what we're listening to, or a tune we heard on the way to work this morning that just won't leave our heads. Why not turn each other on to some fantastico tunage? Rock on. Moderator: machiner
